Why choose luxury vinyl flooring?

Luxury vinyl flooring is most definitely in trend. With Amtico, Karndean and Moduleo some of the leaders in the market. We have seen a huge rise in the number of enquiries for LVT recently. Customers who originally are coming into our showroom to look at wooden floors are drifting over to our LVT section. Obviously, it’s not going to be everybody’s flooring choice, but you would be surprised how many people are converted after seeing the products.

Why should you consider luxury vinyl flooring?

  • It’s water resilient making it ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Ideal for running room to room, flowing through a property seamlessly.
  • It’s low maintenance, no sanding and sealing like with traditional wooden floors. It simply requires a sweep and a mop to keep its as new appearance.
  • Easy replacement of tiles; if you are unfortunate to damage a tile it can be replaced within a matter of minutes.
  • Durable and long lasting. Luxury vinyl flooring is made up of several layers. The top layer is referred to as the “wear layer”, this is what makes it so durable.
  • Large range of designs in both wood and tile. Some will even mimic the texture of wood and stone by being registered embossed adding character.
  • Colours and tones you wouldn’t find with a natural wood product.
  • No need to take off skirtings. Meaning you won’t damage plaster causing more chance of having to redecorate.
  • Warmer under foot then ceramic tiles and laminate.
  • Quieter under foot, you don’t get the tapping sound you would get with a laminate floor.
  • Some ranges now do a loose lay and click system meaning more people are fitting the flooring themselves.
  • You can have underfloor heating.

What to be aware of?

  • With any job the preparation work must be right. Even more so with luxury vinyl tiles. The area needs to be nice and smooth before laying, as the material is normally only 2-3mm thick it will pick up every lump and bump. This is normally done by using a latex levelling compound or ply wood with a feather over the joins.
  • Some ranges can start to get quite pricey. The higher the wear layer you will normally find an increase in price. The same stands for the bespoke options, herringbone designs and so on.
  • If you are to have under floor heating, you will need to use a high temperature adhesive. This also is the same with laying it in a conservatory, next to a log burner etc.

it would seem there is a lot of reasons to choose this type of flooring. With an ever-growing market your sure to find a design to suit your needs.
